NDTV journalist Soumit Mohan on Monday justified political violence unleashed on ABVP karyakartas allegedly by TMC goons.
Mohan, a journalist with NDTV, quoted a news item which stated ABVP activists were allegedly attacked by TMC goons who also vandalised ABVP West Bengal’s Kolkata office. As per ABVP, the TMC goons also deliberately vandalised statues of Lord Hanuman and Goddess Kali.
As per his Twitter bio, he is a journalist associated with NDTV.
Quoting this tweet, Mohan said, ‘jaisi karni, waisi bharni’ (as you sow, so shall you reap).
On May 2, 2021, the ruling party TMC managed to retain West Bengal while BJP won 77 seats. Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief, however, lost Nandigram to BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari. Subsequently, numerous incidents of violence have been reported from West Bengal. Numerous BJP workers have been brutally assaulted and some even murdered.
NDTV’s Soumit Mohan has since deleted his tweet, but has not apologised for justifying violence.
On Day of Eid, Muslim Youths in Bhopal Help Poor Hindu Man Cremate His Mother
As people across the country celebrated Eid on Friday, some Muslim youths in Bhopal helped out a Hindu man whose mother had succumbed to an illness even as most of the people decided to stay away for fear of contracting COVID-19. The only son of the family was clueless when his 80-year-old ailing mother died on Friday and no one came forward to help him.
The Muslim youths not only helped the man cremate his mother but also helped him arrange an ambulance for taking the body to local crematorium. The incident happened in Muslim dominated Koh-e-Fiza area of Bhopal.
Locals were busy in Eid preparations after offering namz when they learnt that Sundariya Bai, a Chhattisgarh native, died after prolonged illness. The woman used to live with her son in a shanty. The son, who works as a labourer, had no money to cremate his mother.
On learning about his situation, local youths arranged an ambulance to take the body to Chhola crematorium, and also bore the expenses of the last rites performed in accordance with the Hindu tradition.
Md Saddam, one of the youths who helped in carrying the body, told News18 that religion only preaches one to help other irrespective of religious lines. By sharing someone’s sorrow on Eid, we only engaged in ibadat, he added. Naheen Khan, another local who was engaged in the kind act, claimed that humanity was the biggest religion which they tries practicing on Eid.

India Needs Proper Vaccine Strategy, Govt’s ‘Disastrous Policy’ Will Ensure 3rd Wave: Rahul Gandhi
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday called for a national vaccine strategy and claimed that the government’s “disastrous” inoculation policy will “ensure a devastating third wave” in the country. He also accused the prime minister of making “mother Ganga cry” after bodies of suspected coronavirus victims were found floating in the river.
“The Government of India’s (GOI’s) disastrous vaccine strategy will ensure a devastating third wave. It can’t be repeated enough – India needs a proper vaccine strategy,” he said on Twitter. Tagging media reports claiming that over 2,000 bodies have been found in 1140 km area along the Ganga, he alleged, “One who used to say ‘Ganga’ has called him has made Mother Ganga cry.”
Gandhi and the Congress have been attacking the prime minister and his government over its vaccine strategy and handling of the pandemic. In yet another tweet, Gandhi appealed to people to stay safe after cyclone Tauktae warning was issued by the government in many states.
He also appealed to Congress workers to provide all assistance to those in need. “May 15 Cyclone Alert has been issued in Kerala, Maharashtra, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Karnataka. Cyclone Tauktae is already causing heavy rains in many areas. “I appeal to Congress workers to provide all possible assistance to those in need. Please stay safe,” he said on Twitter.
